Buying Glasses Help - Prescriptions
Interpreting your Prescription All of our spectacle frames have a guide showing the maximum prescription we can supply into that frame. For example:
Maximum prescription 6.00D Sph / 2.00D Cyl
- 6.00D Sph - This is the maximum value for sphere lens power or sphere+cylinder power, whichever is greater.
- 2.00D Cyl - This is the maxmum value for cylinder lens power
If you're not sure how to inperpret your prescription, or whether your prescription is compatible with a particular product, please send us an email or fax attaching a copy of your prescription and a note of the product(s) you're interested in.
For most ophthalmic frames, we also recommend when you should consider choosing thinner lenses. We don't force you to have thinner lenses with any product, but if your prescription is higher than the figure shown in this recommendation, your new glasses would look much better and be more comfortable to wear with thinner lenses.
Date of Birth Please enter dates as DD/MM/YYYY. This MUST be the date of birth of the prescription holder. Please do not attempt to order prescription glasses on behalf of a minor as your order will be cancelled and you may still be charged if our lab has already started work on your order.
Prescription Date This is the date your prescription was issued and will be written on your prescription form. Please enter dates as DD/MM/YYYY. Your prescription MUST be less than two years old - sorry we cannot make any exceptions.
Pupillary Distance Please indicate (when prompted) if your a pupillary distance measurement is shown on your prescription form. This will usually be a two-digit number and will have 'PD' or 'Pupillary Distance' written next to it. If you cannot find this information on your prescription or you're not sure, just click 'No'. You will then be shown how to send us a suitable photograph of yourself from which our optician can measure your PD. Alternatively, the last optician who made spectacles for you will probably have your PD measurement on file.
Sending your Prescription You can send us your prescription by post, fax, email or you can upload a copy whilst placing your order. Please note that our optician needs to see a copy of your original prescription. A photocopy or fax copy is fine, but please don't type/write the numbers by hand into an email or onto a sheet of paper as we will be unable to proceed with your order.
